Rained out!

We have a lot going on at church this spring! Here is some basic info for your family, so that you can carry on the discussion during the week at home.

What did we do in church school on Sunday?
Well, we didn’t do what was planned! We were planning on planting a flowering shrub and doing some light yard work, but God had other plans. He sent some rain, and inside we stayed!

First, we finished the cards for Meals-on-Wheels by writing messages on the inside. Great job, everyone! They will be sent today. Here are some examples:

  • Enjoy your meal!
  • For you are not alone, for God is with you.
  • Wishing you a happy spring full of flowers!
  • You are loved!

What else did we do in church school on Sunday?
Next, we played a review game with the big, giant game board that the teens made. The board is so big that the kids are the playing pieces! We reviewed everything we have learned this year so far. Some were “beginner” questions; some were a little more challenging. Here are some of the questions. See if you can answer:

  • What are the names of Jesus’s parents?
  • Why was Daniel put in the lion’s den?
  • Name one of the “Be the Church” statements and give an example of how someone can be the church in that way.
  • What can we do to protect the environment?
  • Finish this phrase:  Faith, Hope and ______________.
  • What was your ABCs of Christmas letter, and basically what did you read about that letter?
  • What did Jesus say was the most important commandment?
  • What is Confirmation?

How can we pray about this?
You can make up your prayers using this to start:
Dear God, Thank you for the rain so that we can have nice plants. Thank you for all of the teachers at Tuthill House, who help us learn and grow every week. We pray for the people who will receive our cards with their meals. Help them to stay healthy and let them know that they are loved. We pray for all of this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

What does the Bible say about our rained-out day at church school?

About changing plans:

Proverbs 16:3 New International Version (NIV)
3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.

Proverbs 19:20-21 New International Version (NIV)
20 Listen to advice and accept discipline,
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.

About the weather:

Psalm 147:7-8 New International Version (NIV)
7 Sing to the LORD with grateful praise;
make music to our God on the harp.
8 He covers the sky with clouds;
he supplies the earth with rain
and makes grass grow on the hills.

About learning and reviewing things at church school:
Psalm 119:66 New International Version (NIV)
66 Teach me knowledge and good judgment,
    for I trust your commands.
