From Tuthill House to Yours

Summer Kids’ Club Week 3

July 29, 2018

By, Patty Cole, Director of Faith Formation

Did you miss church on Sunday? Here is some basic info for your family, so that you can carry on the discussion during the week at home.

What happened during the Children’s Message?

First, Mrs. Cole shared a quote from her favorite movie! In the movie, the main character, who is very small, shares that he is afraid to do an important task. The wise woman he is speaking with says:

Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.

Next, we looked at the bulletin cover. It had a picture of former President John F. Kennedy, and a quote of his that read:

One person can make a difference, and everyone should try.

Then, we talked about how the story from the Bible that would be read while we are Tuthill House had a similar message to these two messages, and that the kids should go back and read them at home. For your convenience, it is included at the end of this document.

What did we do at Tuthill House?

We continued with our Kindness Rocks project. First, we sat together and thought of a bunch of positive messages that could be shared on the rocks. We filled up the whole poster board! Next, we wrote messages on almost all the rocks and gave them the first coat of shellac/sealant. We are almost done!

Wait! What is the Kindness Rocks Project? Why are we doing this?

Here is a link to a video that explains it, and a link to their website:

What if you miss a week or two this summer?

It is ok! Come when you can this summer! We share all the rocks and help each other out at each step. Join us next week as we finish up writing the messages on the rocks. Also, we will add a coat of sealant to the backs, where we have written where to post pictures of the rocks. We would love to have you!

How can we pray about this?

Here is the prayer that Mrs. Cole read at the end of the Children’s Message. Feel free to add your own thoughts as well:

Dear God, Please help all of us- no matter how big or small- to try to make changes in the world. We want to do the right things. We want to help people. We pray that we will find the courage when we need it. Please be with anyone who is trying to make a difference. We pray that our project at Tuthill House will help to spread kindness to others, making a difference in their lives. Amen.

What can we read from the Bible that relates to our day?

1 Thessalonians 5:11 New International Version (NIV)

11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Here is the story from the Bible that was read in the service while the kids were at Tuthill House:

2 Kings 4:42-44 New International Version (NIV)

Feeding of a Hundred

42 A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.

43 “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.

But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’” 44 Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.
