This year marks a 30 year anniversary of our church's Doris and Vivian Horton scholarship trust fund. The agreement to establish the fund was signed in November of 1990. Beginning in 1991 scholarships have been awarded each year thereafter - - most often to two and sometimes more deserving students. The terms of the trust are very explicit and the 'keepers' of the trust..i.e. the members of the scholarship committee... are committed to abide by the stipulations.
Doris and Vivian Horton were active members of the church during the 1970's and 1980's. The sisters lived on Maple Avenue and both were former teachers. I personally knew Doris best because we were both members of the Atkinson Garden Club. Doris and Vivian strongly believed in the value of education and we celebrate the establishment of this scholarship which carries their names.
To be considered for this scholarship, this application must be received no later than June 18, 2020 and be accompanied by current official transcripts of your college scholastic record. Applicants or at least one member of their family must be members of Atkinson Congregational Church for the past three years or more. This is for students entering their sophomore or higher-grade level of college.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
