Embracing Ash Wednesday
A Time of Reflection & Renewal
Ash Wednesday serves as a profound invitation to pause, reflect, and embark on a spiritual journey toward renewal. Marking the start of Lent, this day reminds us of life’s impermanence and our continual need for grace. Whether through the solemn ritual of receiving ashes or moments of quiet contemplation, Ash Wednesday offers an opportunity to deepen our faith, seek forgiveness, and prepare our hearts for the Easter season.
Ashes to Go: Meeting People Where They Are
Atkinson Congregational Church continues its tradition of making Ash Wednesday accessible with “Ashes to Go.” Now in its eighth year, this event provides a meaningful opportunity for those with busy schedules or those who may not be able to attend a traditional service. On Wednesday, March 5, from 8:00–9:00 a.m. and 4:00–5:00 p.m., community members can drive to 101 Main St., Atkinson to receive ashes and a blessing from Pastor Jim Thomas without leaving their vehicle.
This initiative also reflects the church’s commitment to community service. Those participating are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to support local food banks, reinforcing the spirit of giving and compassion that Lent inspires. To ensure a safe and respectful distribution, ashes will be applied with fresh cotton swabs and disposable gloves, maintaining a contact-free experience.
Evening Ash Wednesday Service: A Time for Worship and Reflection
For those seeking a more traditional observance, Atkinson Congregational Church invites you to an Ash Wednesday service at 7:00 p.m. The service can be attended in person or viewed via live stream, offering a sacred time for prayer, reflection, and worship. This gathering provides a space to collectively embrace the significance of Ash Wednesday, setting the tone for the Lenten season ahead.
Faith in Action
Through “Ashes to Go” and our evening service, Atkinson Congregational Church reaffirms its commitment to making spiritual experiences accessible and meaningful. Whether receiving ashes in a moment of quiet reflection from your car or participating in a communal worship service, Ash Wednesday calls us all to pause, reflect, and embrace the journey of faith leading to Easter.
We invite you to join us on this sacred day and take a meaningful step forward in your Lenten journey.
