Missions

"So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'" - Matthew 6:31

Our Christian Missions Committee is involved in many projects, both home and abroad, spreading love and Christian Fellowship to those in need.

The Missions Committee supports a variety of local, national and international programs such as: Rockingham County Meals-on-Wheels, Salem Animal Rescue League, Ruth's House, Crossroads House, Heifer International and Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity. Atkinson Congregational Church invites you to join our Knitting Ministry, which meets the second Monday of each month from 1-3:00 pm. in the church parlor. To date, ACC has given over 100 prayer shawls, providing warmth and comfort to many friends and family members. We have also provided knit hats for the troops leaving Pease AFB en route to overseas. These have been greatly appreciated by those serving in the military. We have knit jumpers for newborn babies in Africa, and hats, scarves and mittens for the Atkinson Lions Club "hats and mittens drive." You don't have to be a member of the Church, or even know how to know, to join us. You just need a desire to knit for others.

Also throughout the year, church members donate to and volunteer at the Ecumenical Food Pantry, located at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Hampstead, NH. Donated items can be left in the shopping cart in Lovejoy Hall. For a monthly update on products needed the most, click on the link to our Weekly Bulletin (on the right hand side of the screen).

Here are some of our events:

February: Our church school and youth group programs fill 160 Valentine's Day treat bags for shut-ins serviced by Meals on Wheels. Over the years, we collected boxes of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa mix, bags of mini marshmallows, bags of Hershey kisses, peppermint sticks, boxes of sugar free apple cider packets and boxes of popcorn packets so that we can fill the bags.

March: Atkinson Congregational Church takes a special collection called the One Great Hour of Sharing. Children take home special offering boxes so that they can contribute as well. Money raised goes to help people in need.

May: Atkinson Congregation Church participates in the CROP Walk to raise money for Church World Services.

October: Our annual Harvest Supper serves hot turkey dinners to raise money for the NH Food Bank. Also in October, our church school collects gifts that will fit in a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan's Purse program for destitute children around the world.

November: A free Thanksgiving dinner will be served at the church. The bakers, cooks and servers are all volunteers and all food is donated.

December: Our Christmas tree drive collects for families in need. We have tags with gift requests that can be taken and filled to bring joy to local struggling families. Once the tags are all gone, the tree gets decorated with donated hats and mittens for the Atkinson Lions Club "hats and mittens drive," and the donated gifts go underneath. On Christmas Eve, offerings go to the UCC Christmas Fund for Veterans of the Cross.

To volunteer, make a request, or get more information about any of these programs, contact the church office at 362-5519 or via email at office@atkinsoncc.org.
