Christian Education

Christian Education and Service is for all ages!

Nursery: Toys and games for infants through three-year-olds. Our nursery supervisors also read a short story and lead a related art activity each Sunday. The nursery is in the Tuthill House building (two-story house next to the main church) and is staffed each Sunday during the school year from 9:45 a.m. until shortly after the service ends and the children are picked up by their guardians.

Church School: Interactive lessons with related crafts and games and science experiments. We not only make learning fun, but help kids connect Bible stories to their lives. Children start at the main service, then walk to the Tuthill House building with adults following the Children's Message. The Middle School class for 7th and 8th graders sits in the worship service the first Sunday of most months and meets at 10:00 a.m. in Tuthill House the other Sundays. High School meets in the Tuthill House library the second Sunday of every month.

Adult Education: The adults meet the third Sunday of each month starting at 8:45 a.m. in the Tuthill House library. This year we are discussing "Ten Questions Christians Are Asking." Join us to find some answers.
Extra Fun at Church on Select Sundays: We try to make church extra fun for kids at Rally Sunday in September with our church barbecue, games, and facepainting; Fall Fun in October when we decorate pumpkins, eat donuts off strings, and more; Advent Fun in December when we make an Advent wreath and other Christmas crafts; and Games Day in Feburary when we'll play games, do experiments and make crafts while learning about spiritual gifts. During the fall and spring, we also provide games for the kids to play outside after church.

Children Take the Lead: Children can take the lead at Atkinson Congregational Church by performing in the Christmas Play, Easter Play, or Children's Sunday, lighting the candles for the services, designing bulletin covers, joining the music program, and sponsoring service projects such as Operation Christmas Child in November, Meals on Wheels in February, and One Great Hour of Sharing in March.

Special Programming:
We offer 1st Communion class in the fall and spring for children who want to learn more about the sacrament of Holy Communion; Confirmation for high school students who want to explore the promises made by their parents at baptism and journey toward claiming those promises as their own; and Youth Groups with fun, fellowship, and service for 3rd grade and up. And all our groups are free.

Library: Located on the first floor of Tuthill House (two-story house building next to the main church), our free library has Christian fiction for all ages, devotionals, reference materials, audiotapes, CD’s, videos and DVDs. We just ask that you sign them out and then return them.
During the Summer: We offer a week-long Vacation Bible Camp. We also have fun, games, crafts and Bible stories during Kids Club on Sundays following the Children's Message in the church.
Contact: Please let us know how we may serve you more fully and feel free to contact  Karen McLain at with any questions or to sign up for a youth group.
The purpose of Christian Education at the Atkinson Congregational Church is to provide educational opportunities and resources for all ages to grow in their faith to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and the love of God. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." -- Psalm 119:105
